Q. How do I choose the correct size chandelier for a dining room?

A. If you do not have a table yet, a quick guide is to add the dimensions of the room together. (ie: 12 x 14 = 26" chandelier) If you do have your table, you want a chandelier that is approximately 12" narrower than the width of your table.


Q. How high above my table should my fixture hang?

A. In a room with an 8 ft. ceiling, the bottom of the fixture should be approximately 30" above the table top. If the fixture is an inverted pendant, raise it up high enough so that you are not looking at the bulbs. For each foot higher, raise the fixture 3". (ie: on a 10' ceiling, the fixture should be 36" above the table.


Q. At what height do I install wall sconces?

A. They should be 60" above the floor. Sconces are generally used in pairs or 8' to 10' apart in a hallway.


Q. What information should I have in order to make the correct lighting decisions?

A. These four points:

  1. Plans (architectural) and/or room dimensions
  2. Furniture plans
  3. Special concerns or considerations (usually artwork or adjacent room (view)
  4. Color schemes
